Our first day of our long weekend

Up, and out of the house Friday morning by 9 am, to begin our 4 hr drive north to Jackson New Hampshire. The drive wasn't bad at all, it was an easy drive, mostly 91N, it went by fairly quickly. The drive was a chance to talk about our upcoming trip to Venice, we made some plans and reservations online. And, as I promised my wife, I read to her, I read from the book
"Enchantment." My wife and I often read to each other (mostly she reads to me). I had read somewhere, that when couples read to one another, it brings them closer and strengthens their bond. I just like having someone read to me, and in this case, the 4 hrs flew by.

Check in at The Wentworth was not until 2 pm, so with an hour to kill, we continued on to Conway. My wife wanted to stop at LL Bean, and I wanted lunch. Both were disappointing, but we killed an hour, so mission accomplished. We made it to the B&B, which was nice, checked in, unpacked...

and got orientated with town. Some of you may be questioning "orientated." The word drives my wife nuts, believing, the word should be "oriented." We are both correct. Oriented is the past tense of orient, commonly used in the U.S. Orientated is the past tense of orientate, commonly used in Europe. I use the one that drives my wife nuts.

Our first night was a little slow, but we enjoyed a walk through Jackson, which is quite small. There was a photography studio that we stopped in. The photographs were amazing, and quite expensive, but I did manage to pick the photographer's ear for a bit, which I will write about later. Back to hotel to shower and dress for dinner. As a construction worker, I spend very little time in a suit, so when I have a chance to dress up, I am pretty happy. My wife and I looked great if I do say so myself. We were a little early for dinner, so we had drinks in the lounge and shot a couple of games of pool, before our dinner reservations.

The Wentworth is old, and in need of a little maintenance, but charming and comfortable, I felt as if we could have come to the lobby in our pajamas, sat in front of the fireplace and read "Enchantment" to each other on the couch.

Anyhow, dinner was good and the wait staff was perfect, the last thing on this evening's menu, the hot tub, and then bed. Tomorrow, we are up early, to go snowshoeing and take some pictures! I am sure our snowshoeing and hiking skills might not impress our friend Tara, but my pictures will.
